Description: |
Elmira. Here is first of two successive duplicate 35mm color slides of photos by David Connor that were taken near Snedekerville, Pennsylvania, c. 1955. At the left is Pennsylvania Railroad engine #4651, an I-1SA (2-10-0) "Decapod" built by the Baldwin Locomotive Works as an I-1S during October of 1923, rebuilt in Juniata as an I-1SA in December of 1938, and retired in September of 1956. At the right is Erie Railroad engine #832, an E8A built by GM-EMD in March of 1951 and rated at 2,250 horsepower. In this context, the steamer's waiting for the diesel-powered passenger train to pass. ("Stoneborobranch"; #9 of 34) |
